Books and Materials
Each year, your Cub Scout will need a new handbook , except for Webelos 2 boys. The handbook contains Achievement and Elective activities that form the requirements for earning the next badge. Tigers spend the program year earning the Tiger badge, the Wolves strive for the Wolf badge and so on. This book is required and is often treated by the Den Leaders as part of the uniform that the Cub must have at each meeting. It's also an opportunity for the Cub Scout to learn responsibility as there is the possibility that it will become misplaced. Please keep copies of the achievements and electives completed!

A helpful guide primarily designed for Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders, is the Program Helps. This newsprint guide is inexpensive and contains the monthly themes for the program year and helpful tips to use in planning meetings around the themes that also work in badge requirements.
It does appear to be online as well.

Another helpful resource for finding ways to fill downtime between activities is the Cub Scout How-To book This book is packed with small group games, large group games, yells, cheers, songs, crafts, and silliness. I highly recommend it to all Scout leaders, but it can also be used for keeping any kids busy with fun activities.
Awards
Along the way, the boys can earn beads, belt loops, pins, ribbons, medals, and patches. The majority of the awards are paid for by the Pack out of the monthly dues. The Pack will pay for badges, beads, totems, and the first award of any belt loop or pin. Second awards of belt loops are not as common, but can be awarded at the parent's expense. Often, a belt loop is all but earned by participation in sports or through some homeschooling activity.

There is a book called "Cub Scout Academics and Sports" that contains all of the requirements for the belt loops and pins that can be earned through Cub Scouts. The book can be found locally at the scout shop, online , or probably in the possession of your Cub's den leader. Here is a free online reference as well:
